Introducing our Brand New Yarn: Audrey!
While The Schaefer Yarn Company is just 18 years old, we have been hand dyeing variegated yarn commercially since 1980 - first in Mendocino, California, then in New York City. We now live and work in Interlaken, a village just north of Ithaca in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of New York, where Erich and I started Schaefer Yarn by ourselves.
Now it takes a family of 11 to bring Schaefer Yarn to you, and yet each and every skein of yarn is still individually hand painted, just as it was in the beginning. We coined the phrase handpainted because of the painterly way we approached dyeing. The result: 45 unique colorways available in all of our wool and wool blend yarns, plus 18 colors in the finest pima cotton in the world, Laurel, a worsted weight yarn, and Susan, a delicious sport weight. Our silk, Andrea, is available in 63 colors. We are thrilled to introduce the latest fiber to our line, Audrey, a luscious fingering weight, single ply silk/merino wool yarn. Half of our yarns are made exclusively for us in the USA. We support all our fibers with patterns to knit or crochet, and weavers will find our yarns a pleasure to work with as well.
We are wholesalers, so retail customers, please see our List of Stockists for the store nearest you, or for a mail order service; see our Yarn Samples for the fibers we carry, our Color Concepts for the latest hand painted shades we offer, and the Pattern Pages for a list of patterns by fiber and for photos of our latest designs. We link our website to all those featuring our yarn as well, so that you will have more sources and patterns to choose from. Ravelry, NelkinDesigns and Knitty are also great places to go if you want to see how others are working with Schaefer Yarn.
Wholesale accounts - please contact us to have our rep call and/or to receive the information you need to begin selling Schaefer Yarn right away!
We hope that you will try Schaefer Yarn today, if you haven't already done so. You have our assurance that you will not be disappointed. Thanks for stopping by!
Sincerely,
Cheryl & Erich Schaefer
